About Mount Meru Hotel

Mount Meru Hotel is one of Arusha’s best-known hotels, set on Kanisa Road in the leafy Sekei area, about ten minutes from the city centre. It is a large, full-service property — the kind of hotel where everything you might need is under one roof — and it is a familiar name to safari travellers, business visitors and conference delegates alike.

The facilities are extensive for a city hotel in northern Tanzania. An outdoor swimming pool with a poolside bar sits in the gardens, there is a fitness centre and a spa offering massages and beauty treatments, and dining is spread across two restaurants, a coffee shop, a snack bar and a bar and lounge. Free Wi-Fi runs throughout the hotel.

Rooms range from standard doubles and twins to executive rooms and a choice of suites: junior suites, a junior family suite, executive suites and a presidential suite. That variety makes the hotel a flexible choice — couples can book a simple, comfortable room for a night, while families or groups who want more space can take a suite.

For safari travellers, Mount Meru Hotel works best as a convenient base before heading into the parks or on the way home. It is close to Arusha’s shops, banks and restaurants, about 25 minutes from Arusha Airport for light-aircraft flights, and a little over an hour from Kilimanjaro International Airport. Children are well catered for, with kids’ meals and high chairs available, and an accessible room is offered.

If you have meetings in Arusha, or are combining a conference with a safari, the hotel’s central location and business facilities make it particularly practical.

Location

Location & getting there

Mount Meru Hotel is on Kanisa Road in the Sekei area of Arusha, about ten minutes from the city centre. Arusha Airport, used for light-aircraft flights to the Serengeti and Zanzibar, is roughly 25 minutes away, and Kilimanjaro International Airport — where most international flights arrive — is about 1 hour 10 minutes by road.

We meet you on arrival at either airport and transfer you privately to the hotel. On the morning your safari begins, your guide collects you directly from reception, and the road west to Tarangire, Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater is easily reached from this side of the city.

When to go

Best time to stay

A comfortable stay at any time of year. Arusha’s altitude keeps temperatures mild: warm, sunny days and cool evenings, particularly from June to August, when you will want a jacket at night.

The dry season from June to October is the most popular time for safaris, and Arusha hotels fill quickly, so we recommend booking early. The long rains from March to May and the short rains in November and December usually fall as showers, and with a pool, spa and plenty of indoor spaces, Mount Meru Hotel remains a pleasant stay in any season.
