Escarpment Luxury Lodge stands beside a gorge on the edge of the Great Rift Valley, about 15 minutes’ drive from the entrance to Lake Manyara National Park. The escarpment is one of the most dramatic features of northern Tanzania — a wall of green rising above the lake — and the lodge makes the most of its setting.
Its position is ideal for the northern circuit. Lake Manyara’s forest and lakeshore are minutes away, Tarangire is about an hour and a quarter, and the Lodoare gate of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is around an hour and twenty minutes, so the lodge works well as a base for two or three nights with day trips in different directions.
The lodge has just sixteen rooms, which keeps the atmosphere personal. Rooms combine hardwood floors and antique furnishings with handcrafted décor and modern comforts: bathtubs, outdoor showers, double basins, private balconies, a minibar fridge and tea and coffee facilities. Rooms suit single, double or triple occupancy, which works well for families with one child.
Between drives, there is a swimming pool with a sun deck and pool bar, a separate children’s pool, and a spa offering massages. In the evening, guests gather around the campfire — sometimes accompanied by Maasai performances — before dinner in the restaurant or outdoors.
Wildlife is often seen or heard from the rooms, and the lodge can arrange night game drives, village bike rides and bush meals to round out your stay.
