Ole Serai Luxury Camp sits among tortilis and acacia trees at Kogatende in the northern Serengeti, about 1.5 km — five minutes’ drive — from Kogatende airstrip. Kogatende is at the heart of the Mara River crossing area, where the Great Migration arrives from around July and the herds make their dramatic plunges across the river.
The location makes the most of every day. Arriving by light aircraft, you are in camp within minutes, and the river crossing points are close by, so you spend your time watching wildlife rather than driving.
The camp’s luxury tents come in double and twin layouts. Each has comfortable beds with mosquito nets, floor-to-ceiling drapes, bedside lamps, an en-suite bathroom, a seating area, an in-room safe and a private porch looking out over the bush. Wildlife such as zebra, wildebeest and mongoose often wanders close to camp.
The main tent is the stylish heart of Ole Serai, with leather seating and chandeliers — an unexpected touch of elegance in the wilderness. Meals are served here, and guests consistently rate the food well. Wi-Fi is available, laundry is offered, and the team arranges private sundowners, honeymoon touches and cultural activities such as Maasai fire-lighting and Swahili lessons.
Because wildlife moves freely through the unfenced camp, guests are escorted after dark.
