Singita Mara River Tented Camp sits on a dramatic bend of the Mara River in the remote Lamai triangle, the northernmost corner of the Serengeti, within around 98,000 acres of wilderness. With only six tented suites, it is one of the most exclusive places to stay in Tanzania — a camp where the river, the wildlife and the silence take centre stage.
Each suite has a private deck and a bathtub overlooking the river, so you can watch hippos and crocodiles in the water below and, in season, the migration herds gathering on the banks. The design is light and contemporary, letting the landscape speak for itself.
The camp is off-grid and solar powered, yet nothing is lacking. A swimming pool with a sun deck faces the river, wellness treatments, yoga and meditation are offered, and a self-service bar-deli is always open. In the evening, guests gather around the fire pit under a sky full of stars. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available, although it can be slow given the remote location.
Food is light and seasonal, with East African influences: mezze boards by the pool, fireside snacks, tapas-style sharing plates and open-air dining in the pool sala. A curated wine tasting is offered at camp.
Lamai is spectacular during the Great Migration’s river crossings, usually from July to October, and wonderfully quiet the rest of the year, when you may have the river and its resident wildlife almost to yourselves. Children aged ten and over are welcome.
