Serengeti Explorer by Elewana is a contemporary luxury lodge perched on the Nyaboro Hills in the central Serengeti, looking out over the plains. It was designed for travellers who want more than game drives — people curious about photography, the night sky and the ecosystem itself — and it offers experiences found almost nowhere else in the park.
The lodge is home to the Serengeti’s first on-site photographic hide, semi-submerged beside a waterhole so you can photograph wildlife at eye level as it comes to drink. A resident photographer runs a free editing studio, camera equipment can be rented, and a resident astronomer leads stargazing sessions with a powerful telescope under some of the darkest skies you will ever see. Guided bush walks with an armed ranger and a complimentary visit to the Serengeti Centre round out the programme.
There are 74 rooms in total: sixty-eight Savannah Rooms, five Savannah Suites and the Chief’s Suite. All have picture windows, sliding doors and private balconies over the plains. Some rooms interconnect for families, and wheelchair-accessible rooms are available — rare in the Serengeti.
Between drives, an infinity pool with its own bar and restaurant, the Reva spa, a gym with yoga and fitness sessions, an open-air cinema and a boutique keep everyone busy. Dining is equally varied, with six restaurants and bars ranging from a coffee bar to a five-course, wine-paired dinner in the cellar.
The central Serengeti’s resident big cats are close by, and optional rhino tracking at Moru Kopjes offers a rare chance to see one of Africa’s most endangered animals.
