Safaris for the people you love

A safari is one of the most memorable trips you can share — whether it is your children seeing their first elephant or a honeymoon under the stars. Both deserve careful planning, and both benefit from the same thing: a private vehicle and guide, so the journey is shaped around you.

For families, that means shorter drives, plenty of breaks, lodges with pools and family rooms, and a guide who knows how to keep young travellers engaged. The northern circuit works beautifully for families: Tarangire, Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater are close together, and the crater offers a full day of wildlife without long transfers. Some camps have minimum ages, so we always check before suggesting a property.

For honeymooners, it means romantic, intimate places to stay — a treehouse suite in a forest, a tented suite with a bathtub over a river, a private dinner in the bush — followed by a few days on a Zanzibar beach. We let every property know about your celebration, so they can add their own special touches.

Tips for families and couples

01

What age is right for a family safari?

There is no single right age, but children aged around six and over usually enjoy game drives most. Some camps have minimum ages — for example, Sanctuary Swala welcomes children aged six and over and Singita Mara River ten and over — while others welcome all ages. We always check each property’s policy for you.

02

Keeping children engaged

Give children their own binoculars and a checklist of animals to spot, plan shorter drives with breaks, and choose lodges with pools for the middle of the day. A private vehicle means you can stop whenever you need to. Activities such as stargazing at Serengeti Explorer or a family-friendly Maasai visit add variety.

03

Health & safety with children

Speak to your doctor about malaria prevention and vaccinations for children well before you travel. In unfenced camps, children must be supervised at all times, as wildlife moves freely. We choose lodges where families feel comfortable and safe.

04

Planning a honeymoon safari

Combine two or three intimate camps with a few days on Zanzibar. Consider a treehouse at Lake Manyara Tree Lodge, a fireplace suite at The Manor, a tented suite in the Serengeti, and a private-pool villa on the beach. Tell us about your wedding date so we can arrange special touches at each lodge.

When to go

When to go

School holidays in July and August coincide with the dry season and excellent game viewing, but this is also the busiest time, so book early. December to February is warm and green, with calving in the south and good beach weather on Zanzibar — popular with honeymooners.

The green season from April to May is quieter, but some camps close and roads can be muddy, which may be less suitable for young children.

Questions

Family & honeymoon FAQs

Still have a question? Our team in Moshi answers within 24 hours.

Ask on WhatsApp
Are safaris safe for children?

Yes, with sensible planning. Children stay in the vehicle during game drives, and in camps they must be supervised. We choose family-friendly lodges and adapt the pace.

Do lodges have minimum ages?

Some do. For example, Sanctuary Swala welcomes children aged six and over and Singita Mara River ten and over. We check every property for you.

Which lodges have family rooms?
What is the most romantic place to stay?

Our favourites include the treehouses at Lake Manyara Tree Lodge, the river-view suites at Singita Mara River and the private-pool villas at Baraza on Zanzibar.

Can you combine a honeymoon safari with Zanzibar?

Yes — a short flight takes you from the parks to the beach. See our Zanzibar honeymoon stays.
